The Hamilton Township Road Committee functions as a
liaison between our Township residents and the Clare County Road
Commission. Roads conditions are assessed and areas needing repair
are reported to the Road Commission Foreman. A member of the HTRC
regularly attends County Road Commission Meetings to report road
conditions within the township. These monthly meetings are held the
first Wednesday at 9:00 AM and the third Wednesday at 7 PM. Public
may attend these meetings and are given an opportunity to express
their issues or concerns.
The HTRC also recommends major road improvements to
the Township Board. This work; ditch cleaning, road base rebuild and
re-gravel is usually performed on a cost share basis between the
county and township, the costs must be approved in the Township
Annual Budget.
Brine is applied to gravel roads once or twice each year, usually in
the mid summer. Specific dates will be posted once they are knows.
Since forming the Road Committee in 2007,
communications with the County Road Commission has improved and so
have our overall road conditions. State road funding is based on a
cents per gallon tax. With the high cost of fuel and depressed
economy, less miles are being driven resulting in less funds
available for road improvements, routine maintenance efforts are
ever so important.
Residents may report road conditions to David
Cooper, 989-539-5944 or
supervisor@hamiltontwp.us.
